Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children Thank Governor Ron DeSantis for Recognizing Florida’s Specialty-Licensed Children’s Hospitals in Framework for Freedom Budget

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 2, 2023) – Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children applaud Governor Ron DeSantis for his continued commitment to ensuring world-class, specialized pediatric care is available to every child in the state of Florida. Governor DeSantis’ Framework for Freedom Budget includes $85 million in funding for Florida’s four non-profit specialty-licensed children’s hospitals: Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, and Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville.

Joint statement from Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children:

“Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children thank Governor Ron DeSantis for recognizing Florida’s four non-profit specialty licensed children’s hospitals in the Framework for Freedom Budget.

One in four Florida children will receive treatment at one of our four hospitals, which solely provide and invest in care for children. The children we treat have the most complex and critical illnesses and injuries, and we are often their only option for care with Medicaid representing 50-70 percent of the children seeking care in our hospitals.

Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children are committed to staying at the leading edge of pediatric care and ensuring that no child has to leave the state of Florida for world-class, specialized care. We are thankful for the Governor’s ongoing commitment to investing in the health and well-being of Florida’s children.”
