Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children Thank Governor Ron DeSantis, Senate President Ben Albritton, House Speaker Danny Perez and the Florida Legislature for Recognizing Pediatric Cancer Care and Research in 2025-26 State Budget
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 7, 2025) – Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children applaud Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida House and Senate for their commitment to advancing Florida’s position as a leader in pediatric cancer care and ensuring Florida’s children can access world-class, specialized cancer care without leaving the state.
The 2025-26 state budget signed into law includes $30 million in funding to elevate pediatric cancer care treatment and research at Florida’s four non-profit specialty-licensed children’s hospitals: Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, and Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville.
One in four Florida children will receive treatment in Florida’s specialty children’s hospitals, and these four hospitals serve the majority of Florida children with inpatient admissions for complex cancer conditions or rare tumors.
Joint statement from Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children:
“Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children thank Governor Ron DeSantis the Florida Legislature for recognizing pediatric cancer care and research in their 2025-26 state budget proposal.
As the four hospitals solely focused on investing in and providing pediatric care, Florida’s Specialty Hospitals for Children are committed to making Florida a national leader in pediatric cancer research, innovation and treatment and ensuring that no child has to leave our state for world-class, specialized cancer care. We are thankful for this important investment in the health and well-being of Florida’s children.”
